Julia
Dewey Dye, Ph.D. - Vice President
Dr. Dewey Dye has a diverse and richly textured background
from which she has developed techniques for instruction in a variety
of fields. Her graduate degree in Theatrical Hoplology prepared
her to look at cultural approaches to conflict and their application
to performance.
She looks to combine her knowledge of perceived violenceand
its effect on modern audiences with the historical wealth of warrior
cultures and individual warrior experiences. Her studies have led
her to discover the warrior role in Native American, Japanese, Tibetan,
and European traditions, as well as in modern America. Her writings
have been published in journals such as "The Fight Master"
and "Coalition Works".
Julia is currently a technical advisor associated
with Warriors, Inc. and her own company, Axe of Courage. She has
worked on such projects as the films Galaxy Quest, Starship Troopers
and Wag the Dog, the television mini-series Rough Riders, and live
performances such as Star Trek: The Experience and Terminator:2-3D
in Hollywood. She also co-directed T2:3D for Universal Studios Japan
in Osaka which opened on April 1, 2001 and was the Associate Venue
Producer for Short Track Speed Skating and Figure Skating at the
2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Her roots in live theatre include her long association
with the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, the Ring of Steel
in Chicago, and many Renaissance Festivals and other historical
theatre events.
She is active in the Society of American Fight Directors
currently serving as Executive Director.
